It is with a heavy heart that I need to inform you, that I’ll shut down the PeerTube instance https://video.emacs.ch at August 31st 2023.
It was my idea to complement our services by adding a PeerTube instance for video uploads. I had a few prominent video creators who agreed to upload all their YouTube content to our instance, including SystemCrafters.
Unfortunately, I soon realized that it is far too much work to keep such an instance running. Not only technically but also from the work involved for moderation. It took only a few days until the first pornographic content was uploaded. Legal issues are pre-programmed if an admin doesn’t moderate every sign-up and every video upload manually. Without an already heavy user base, the effort required is a massive waste of time.
Three users who uploaded videos have been informed personally via email.
This does not affect our Mastodon instance, which is thriving and also open for small video uploads.
