FOSS is always preferable.
However, devs deserve to be compensated for their work, if you use it for yours.
Seeing how devs behave when they use your code for their commercial enterprise and it doesn’t behave as they expect, I can understand why maintainers are burning out or turning into rude assholes.
That’s the open source trap many bright devs fall into. You publish your work and suddenly shit hits the fan. Even though you might feel overwhelmed, don’t turn into a rude asshole. Just put a price tag on your support work.
